Please join us for a public ribbon cutting and press event to celebrate the completion of downtown Pontiac&rsquo\;s newest mural\, fe aturing historic Pontiac figure Elizabeth Dennison Forth on Wednesday\, Au gust 17\, at 10:00 a.m. \;
\n&rsquo\;Lisette&rsquo\; Dennison Fo rth was the first black property owner in the State of Michigan\, after be ing born a slave in Macomb County and making a &lsquo\;daring escape to Ca nada.&rsquo\; She owned property in what is now the City of Pontiac\, incl uding where Oak Hill Cemetery now exists. \nThe 60&rsquo\; mural on the rear wall of the parking structu re attached to the Riker Building at 35 W. Huron Street\, is the work of a rtist Zach Curtis. The project received support from Main Street Pontiac\, which donated 40% of the funds necessary for the completion of the projec t\, and Main Street Rocks\, of Durand\, MI\, whom Curtis cites as an addit ional sponsor of the work.
\nThe event will take place in front of t he mural\, in the parking lot adjacent to the Riker Building parking struc ture&rsquo\;s west wall\, west of Wayne Street\, accessible off of Clinton Street. Speakers will include Council Woman Melanie Rutherford\, Mayor Ti m Greimel\, and others to be announced.
