DESCRIPTION:<p>The Baldwin Public Library is please to host the Birmingham
  Museum for their historical lectures. Come in and hear about your local h
 istory from the knowledgeable staff.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>Thursday\, March 12\; 
 \"Our Indigenous Heritage\" Special Lecture Series features Leslie S. Edwa
 rds\, &ldquo\;Anishinaabek Basket Weavers and Michigan's WPA (Works Progre
 ss Administration)&rdquo\; at the Baldwin Public Library at 7 PM.&nbsp\;Ar
 chivist and historian Leslie S. Edwards will present this program as part 
 of the Birmingham Museum&rsquo\;s special 2026 spring lecture series focus
 ing on our Indigenous heritage. Using primary source documents and photogr
 aphs\, Leslie will highlight northern Michigan&rsquo\;s Indigenous basket 
 makers and where their works were sold as early as the turn of the 20h cen
 tury. In 1938\, the Works Progress Administration (WPA) established the WP
 A Indian Handicraft Project. Leslie will present findings on if or how thi
 s project helped the economies of the Tribal nations in northern Michigan.
