Join us Saturday\, August 8th at 9:00 AM for our first ches s tournament at the library. All ages and skill levels are welcome. This i s an unranked event run by a volunteer group. \; Sign-up is required t o reserve your spot. ♟️
\nThis will be a three round Swiss-style tou rnament (random pairings first round\, then winners playing winners/losers playing losers each round thereafter\, as player count allows). Games wil l be timed\, with each player having 20 minutes per game with a 3 second d elay (A player's clock does not start counting down his/her time until 3 s econds after the other player made his/her move). Recording of games by pl ayers via the standard scientific chess notation is encouraged for verific ation of results and possible resolution of disputes/illegal moves. If a d ispute occurs between two players who are not recording the game\, the tou rnament director will make the best determination possible of the correct position/move. A completed move sheet/score card (if moves are recorded) f or each game should be turned in to the tournament director after each gam e. It will be the responsibility of the winner of each game to report the result to the tournament director. For games ending in a draw\, players ar e equally responsible for this.
\nShould there be an uneven number o f players in any round\, the player without an opponent will be granted a bye/win into the next round and will have the option of playing an informa l game against the tournament director should they so choose (this game wi ll not be recorded as a tournament result). \;Chess sets and clocks p rovided by the library. The first games are scheduled to start at 10am\, s o please arrive 15 minutes early to allow for any announcements or instruc tions.
