 etroit. Detroit abolitionists helped freedom seekers from the south evade 
 slave catchers and local law enforcement on their way to Canada. Detroit&r
 squo\;s abolitionist community was fierce in its support of runaways in th
 e face of severe local opposition. This program will be presented by the D
 etroit Historical Society.</p>
