DESCRIPTION:<p>An exhibit of paintings by Norman Sasowsky will open in the
  Steinberg Room on Friday December 13th. The exhibit will be on display un
 til the end of January. <br /><br /><br />Norman Sasowsky will join us on 
 Saturday January 25h at 4PM for a reception and to read from his recent co
 llection of poems <em>Late Blooming</em>. In the event of inclement weathe
 r the reading will be held on Sunday January 26th at 4PM. <a href=\"https:

  /><br /><br />\"Norman Sasowsky was born in Brooklyn\, New York City in 1
 931.&nbsp\;<br />His first experience with art was as a Junior High School
  student in New York\, and later at Abraham Lincoln High\, where the Chair
 man of the Art Department\, Leon Friend\, was an outstanding teacher.&nbsp
 \;<br />He received a one year scholarship upon graduating and chose to at
 tend The Art Students League of New York in 1951 where he studied with Har
 ry Sternberg\, Kenneth Hayes Miller\, and briefly with Reginald Marsh. He 
 then went on to study at The City College of New York where he earned his 
 Bachelor of Arts and Masters degrees. . He attended New York University an
 d earned a Doctor of Education degree in 1972<br />In order to earn a livi
 ng he worked in art studios and publications as a production assistant and
  did some freelance illustration<br />He first started teaching in Hell's 
 Kitchen section of Manhattan in a Junior High School and then in Junior Hi
 gh School in Queens and then in High School. Later he obtained a teaching 
 position at the University of Delaware\, taught many years\, and is now Pr
 ofessor Emeritus.&nbsp\;<br />In 1952 he rented a studio in 1 Union Square
 \, NYC\, one floor beneath his former teacher\, Reginald Marsh. When Marsh
  died unexpectedly in 1954\, his widow hired Sasowsky to care for her husb
 and's work. This entailed cataloging all the work left in his Estate\, arr
 anging exhibitions\, and many other activities related to Marsh's work. He
  did this for twenty five years\, initially under the guidance of Lloyd Go
 odrich\, then Director of the Whitney Museum of American Art.&nbsp\;<br />
 In the 1990s he published four Artist's Books combining text and his image
 s which are in private and library Special Collections\, notably Universit
 y of Wisconsin-Milwaukee\, University of Washington\, New York Public Libr
 ary Print Collection\, and the Smithsonian Library. He also authored two b
 ooks on Reginald Marsh.&nbsp\;<br />He has created 13 short videos related
  to his work. These can be seen on youtube (username: 1norsky).<br />He's 
 had more than twelve one-person exhibitions\, including the Delaware Art M
 useum\, Widener University\, and West Chester University\, and participate
 d in many group exhibitions. His work is in many private\, corporate\, and
  public collections throughout the country.&nbsp\;<br />During all this ti
 me\, while teaching\, he married\, had two sons\, and continued to practic
 e art when he could find the time and energy. His interest in art continue
 s unabated to the present. And\, over the years\, he has continued to exhi
 bit his work.&nbsp\;<br />He currently lives in New Paltz\, NY.\"</p>
